Halloween can be fun and festive for people, but there are some parrot safety hazards that should be kept in mind for this day. Here are some tips to help you ensure that your parrot has a happy and safe Halloween.

  1. Watch the Candy
Make sure candy is kept safely away from your parrot(s). Chocolate is toxic to parrots. If you suspect your parrot has ingested chocolate, contact your veterinarian.

  2. Keep Parrots Safe Inside
When opening your front door to trick-or-treaters make sure your parrot is safe in the other room so he/she doesn’t fly outside when the door is open.

  3. Strangers in Costume
People in costumes may frighten some parrots. Keep them away from the front door so they don’t fly and injure themselves.

  4. Pet Costumes
If you are dressing your parrot in a costume, be sure that they are comfortable with it and that the costume is safe. Make sure the costume doesn’t block your parrot’s sight, hearing, or breathing.
