Johnnie

Hi, my name is Johnnie and I am a male Greater Sulphur Crested Cockatoo.

I am a big boy and when I first came to the Refuge, I was a pretty miserable guy. I was very overweight, grumpy, sick and a big feather picker. One of my very favorite people, a volunteer at the Refuge, took an instant liking to me and has worked with me for years. I am happy to report that I am no longer the miserable bird that first arrived on Rich's doorstep.

I love life and love spending time with the volunteers at the Refuge. While my favorite person still showers me with love and attention, I've learned to enjoy spending time with anyone who wants to hang out with me.

I love going outside for walks, although now that I've grown my feathers back, I'm going to have to learn how to wear a harness so that I don't get spooked and fly away. I just adore my time in the shower, especially when I get to go outside in the backyard aviary to soak up some sun while drying off.

Did I mention that I am also bilingual? Yep! I speak English as well as some Lithuanian! How many birds do you know who possess this talent? I'm affectionately known as "Mr. Playbird" around here, as I just love women. Not that I don't like men. Remember my favorite volunteer that I mentioned above? He's a man. Being the cockatoo that I am, I am not shy about demanding your attention. I will scream -LOUDLY- when I require some cuddling - just in case you weren't paying attention... Check out my "before" and "after" pictures - I'm a pretty handsome guy, huh?

Love,
Johnnie

Our Mission is Simple

To work in joint cooperation with all avian rescue groups to try and eliminate the need for rescue groups by educating the public about aviculture issues. Until that is accomplished, we will provide a sanctuary for those unfortunate parrots that are in need of a home.
