Lemon

Hi, my name is Lemon! Thanks for stopping by to take a look at my page. I’ve been called both Lemon and Hercules, but since I call myself Lemon (often times saying “I love you Lemon”), everyone calls me Lemon (I think that’s a nicer name anyway - very reflective of the beautiful yellow coloring underneath my flight feathers!).

As you can see in my photo, I have to wear a protective collar because sometimes, while preening my chest feathers, I get a little carried away and hurt myself by picking at my skin. This collar helps to distract me from this behavior - plus, I think it makes me look quite handsome and distinguished! UPDATE! I haven't had to wear my collar for several months now! Everyone here at the Refuge is very proud of me and although I may not look quite as distinguished as when I wore my collar, it sure is a lot easier to get around and even more importantly, snuggle up to people, when I don't have to wear it.

I am a sweet bird who needs a very patient person to work with me. My previous household had a set of young twins who used to stick their fingers through my cage bars. This scared me! Therefore, I get upset when anyone sticks their fingers through my cage bars and I’ll make sure to let you know…. hopefully you’ll understand. For this reason, my ideal household will not have small children. I do enjoy coming out for a good head scratch with my human friends at the rescue. I tend to be a little nervous when taken away from my cage, so you just need to go slow with me and have the time and patience to work with me. I've been told I'm getting much better in regards to this. Once I’m away from my cage, as long as there’s not too much commotion, I tend to enjoy hanging out with my human friends.

When I get really excited, I start talking very quickly - so quickly that while I know what I’m trying to say, people sometimes have a hard time making out my words! What can I say? When I’ve got a lot to say, I forget to take the time to clearly say my words. Plus, it’s fun to keep people guessing! Although ‘cockatoo and quiet’ may seem like an oxymoron, I am one of the quieter ‘toos at the Refuge, relatively speaking. I do have my moments, but I don’t scream incessantly.

If you would like the chance to come and meet me, please contact the Refuge. If we end up being soul mates, maybe I’ll get to come home and live with you!

Lots of love,
Lemon

Our Mission is Simple

To work in joint cooperation with all avian rescue groups to try and eliminate the need for rescue groups by educating the public about aviculture issues. Until that is accomplished, we will provide a sanctuary for those unfortunate parrots that are in need of a home.
