Precious

We are very happy to announce that Precious was adopted into her forever home the first week of June 2009. We hope to provide updates about her progress soon.

Update from Precious's home – December 30, 2008: While I was at the Refuge today, a new bird arrived to join the flock. She is a Moluccan 'too - just a baby. I was looking through her papers and I think, if I'm remembering correctly, her hatch date was in March 2005.

Her name is Precious and she was turned in because of a family member's allergies to her dander. She arrived wrapped in a towel, wearing a pink harness. The family brought her cage along, which I'm sure will help make her feel more comfortable during the adjustment to her new surroundings.

She is such a sweet bird! She was very scared, and stood motionless on the Java tree for over an hour, just taking everything in. She seems happy to be petted and when Susanna picked her up, she glued herself to Susanna's body. She didn't make a sound the entire time I was there, although I'm sure that will change quickly.

She's a small little girl - Rich had originally planned to put her in the garage, for the time being, but when he realized how little she was, he decided she'd probably be more comfortable in the 'too room, instead of with the 'big boys'. It was very sad watching her family say 'goodbye' to her. In fact, I had to leave the room, because I was getting teary-eyed.

When I left the rescue tonight, Precious was upstairs spending some quality time with Rich. I'm sure she is going to fit right in with the rest of the flock. For the time being, her cage is right next to the Java tree - you can't miss it. Make sure to stop in and say 'hello'!

Our Mission is Simple

To work in joint cooperation with all avian rescue groups to try and eliminate the need for rescue groups by educating the public about aviculture issues. Until that is accomplished, we will provide a sanctuary for those unfortunate parrots that are in need of a home.
