Petey

Petey has had had several owners before finding his way to the Refuge, and is a very sociable guy. He likes dogs and cats alike. Petey prefers veggies over fruit, and loves to be misted.

He had never had toys before coming to the Refuge, so he is still learning how to play with them. He adores visitors, and gets their attention by saying: “Hi Pretty Bird,” and “Hi, Petey!”. He definitely has a preference for men.

Petey was adopted by Jerry and Nicki, a couple of our wonderful volunteers and is now Jerry's shoulder adornment. He is finally taking to Nicki and does not try to attack her every time she get's close to Jerry.

Update: Petey and Nicki have FINALLY come to terms. He just needed to learn to trust women, as he’s never had a “mommy” before. He now cuddles and kisses and is just the sweetest little bird you have ever seen (hard for the other volunteers to imagine, I know J).

He loves to play in boxes, and to jump on Nicki’s fingers while she is typing on the keyboard attempting to work. He loves to dance to music and is especially fond of chasing his “sister” Pickle around on top of Nicki’s desk.

When Jerry takes him upstairs to go to bed at night he makes the sweetest little kissing sounds all the way up the stairs. We consider ourselves very lucky to be Petey’s adoptive parents.

Our Mission is Simple

To work in joint cooperation with all avian rescue groups to try and eliminate the need for rescue groups by educating the public about aviculture issues. Until that is accomplished, we will provide a sanctuary for those unfortunate parrots that are in need of a home.
